  • Overcoming Busyness in Business: Strategy 4 – Find Peace

My wife and I ran into big problems in our marriage because I worked so darn much.  Day and night, 25 hours a day, 8 days a week (that’s right, I worked so much I created days that didn’t exist). I think it’s a combination of 1) knowing there’s still a lot to be done to grow the business and putting in more time will get it done, 2) workaholics syndrome I inherited from mom, 3) wanting to prove my worth to my father by how much I work, 4) if I was broke, at least I was working and that felt good, and 5) sometimes I just wanted to escape home life and working is a safe refuge. All of these above excuses are lies that the enemy has lead me to believe.  Each statement above can be a whole chapter in a book. Working hard isn’t the problem.  Not resting is the issue. We entrepreneurs do have a lot of work, we do have great responsibilities, we do not follow the normal 9-5 schedule, but we’re also smarter than the average Joe and need to understand the tricks of the super successful who seem to be able to manufacture time at will. How can we beat the system and create more time?  The answer is a contradiction of the mind:  find a day of rest. In Mark 2:25-28 "Jesus said, “Really? Haven’t you ever read what David did when he was hungry, along with those who were with him? How he entered the sanctuary and ate fresh bread off the altar, with the Chief Priest Abiathar right there watching—holy bread that no one but priests were allowed to eat—and handed it out to his companions?” Then Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made to serve us; we weren’t made to serve the Sabbath. The Son of Man is no lackey to the Sabbath. He’s in charge!” I used to cringe when I heard the pastors preach about taking a full day of rest.  I imagined me sitting on a couch doing nothing for 24 hours and freaking out as if in an insane asylum. Worst is that I thought I was being a “bad Christian” for not taking a day off.  So then I would force myself to not work just to honor the day as if to say “ok God, I did it, are you proud of me?…”  See how even on the Sabbath I was still working for someone’s approval? The Sabbath isn’t an item on the Christian checklist of things that make God like you more.  The Sabbath is a day where you rest to RECHARGE, REBOOT, REJUVENATE, and RELAX. Imagine you’re working out at the gym.  Don’t you ‘rest’ between sets of exercises?  This time of rest actually strengthens you and you do even better the next set!  That’s how taking a day of rest works. We entrepreneurs need to be very conscious about taking this full day of rest so that our ideas for the following week ahead of us are at 100% and we’re full of the energy we need to tackle the challenges and excitement of owning a business. Your Entrepreneur Compass, Alex Miranda Do you think you’ll be bored on your rest day?  Here are  5 Things Successful Entrepreneurs Do on the Weekends. Comment below with some ideas on things you do on your rest day. #TimeManagement #WorkLifeBalance

  • The Suicidal Entrepreneur

You’re at your lowest low. The business is in debt.  You don’t know how to pay the employees and they are about to walk out.  Your vendors won’t stop calling for payments past due.  You’re on a 3-day eviction notice from your apartment. Post to Instagram You can’t think straight because of all of the anxiety and stress. You’re on the edge of the cliff. You’re all alone. I’ve been here before, and its not a good feeling. About to commit entrepreneurial suicide (i.e. go and get a JOB and become a laborer….the horror!) But I knew there was only ONE way out of this. You don’t realize God is all you need, until God is all you have. So here is the solution:  Read Psalms 91 entirely…over and over… I want you to realize that in Psalms 91 was written to assure believers that those who trust in God can expect security. Entrepreneurs, isn’t that what we want?  Security!! Read Psalms 91….write it out….read it for 7 days straight. Psalms 91 You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, Say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon. Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will even graze you. You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses. Yes, because God’s your refuge, the High God your very own home, Evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling. You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes, and kick young lions and serpents from the path. 14-16 “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!” If you’re an entrepreneur 3 feet from the edge, I would pick up the entire book of Psalms from the beginning and start a reading plan every morning through it. #BusinessBibleStudy #DebtFreedom

  • In God, We Entrepreneurs Trust: Part 4 – The Benefits of Trusting God

Owning a business can produce some of the loneliest times you’ll ever experience. Even when I had partners, there were times I felt like it was just me against the whole world. I’m so used to making decisions on my own, taking risks by myself, and cleaning up messes from my vendors or contractors. It really does feel like a one-man-show. The danger here is that when the going gets tough, being alone can lead to depression, anxiety, and making poor decisions. If we’re in a waiting season, it can lead us to make a move before it’s time. If we’re faced with a great obstacle, being alone could make us cower away and retreat back, not letting us advance and grow our businesses. But that’s not how God designed it to be. Physically, we may run the business on our own, but God’s looking for us to make a big mindset shift. The Bible says "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord , have never forsaken those who seek you". Psalms 9:10 NIV This means that God is right there with you, sitting at the corner of the desk, looking straight at you, ready to protect, defend, and honor you as a Godpreneur. Maybe right now you’re facing a situation in your business that requires all the trust you could gather up. The enemies in the marketplace tempt you in different directions, but you have to stand firm for what’s good and right for your business. This is when trusting God and his process will reveal its benefits: God shading you with protection, defending you from attack, and honoring you in the marketplace. The benefits of Trusting God will surpass all expectation, but the best part is that God will be by our side the entire time. Don’t miss this because this is the key to trusting God: regardless of the outcome, the mindset of following and trusting God is what will produce the victory. Godpreneur Rule: God is ready to protect, defend, and honor us as Godpreneurs. #GainConfidence

  • Becoming a Godpreneur – Part 9: Born To Do

My goal in life is to get to heaven knowing that I did what I was born to do, that I pursued the vision set forth before me. I know I’m supposed to help 10,000 (at least) entrepreneurs find out what they were born to do, and help them bring that to life. I know it will please God for more people to understand and know the identity He has for them! We Godpreneurs have a destiny, a calling, a job assignment, a vision from God to do something great within our passion and purpose. I wrote a 40-day devotional on the life of Nehemiah. I paralleled it with the entrepreneur’s journey. Nehemiah got a vision, knew what he had to do, and didn’t let anything stop him until it was finished. We all end up somewhere in our lives. Nehemiah ended up there on purpose. The Bible says: "I also made provision for contributions of wood at designated times, and for the firstfruits. Remember me with favor, my God." Nehemiah 13:31 NIV Nehemiah knew what it was all for, and this gave him the drive and determination. Like Nehemiah, you have an amazing destiny to fulfill in your business. There are relationships God has lined up, opportunities God has waiting for you, devine appointments are set, it’s your time to step into what you were born to do! We all need a singular encounter with God, a moment of clarity in knowing the vision He has for our lives. We need this to survive the rollercoaster of entrepreneurship. Most important, being a Godpreneur is all about God and his greater purpose. Godpreneur starts with God and ends with God. His glory is the ultimate goal and vision. Godpreneur Rule #3: Godpreneurs never lose sight of the devine nature and significance of their work. #EnhanceFocus #GainConfidence

  • 5 Ways Struggling Married Entrepreneurs Can Still Win

My friends all know that I love launching businesses. There’s a lot of preparation that goes into starting a business. I write a plan, register the company, get a bank account, set up a merchant processor, build a system for operating, create the branding materials, and hire the right people. When I set out to launch a business, I EXPECT it to be a success, so I put all the preparation together in anticipation of the clients coming in. Preparing reduces my worry and also increases my excitement for the success of the venture. But I’ve consulted many entrepreneurs who WANT to start a business, but because they don’t put in the preparation necessary for launching, they never launch. Their brains are in launch-mode, but the lack of confidence due to low expectations prevent them from going “all in” on the idea. Many times when we entrepreneurs set out to launch new ventures with dreams, aspirations and hopes we may all start at the same place called “Idea Land,” but only a selected few launches because of quietly preparing in advance. In the same way, if we want a breakthrough in our business and marriage, we have to EXPECT that it’s going to happen. But we can’t just expect without doing the prep work. Whatever we are hoping or expecting must come with physical and mental preparation. In Matthew 25:6-10, Jesus tells a story of 10 women who were expecting to be part of a night-time ceremonial wedding procession, but only a few of them had enough oil in their lamps to participate. When the groom finally arrived (without notice), just a few enjoyed the night while the others missed out. The bible says: “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “ ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. (Matthew 25:6‭-‬10 NIV) The point Jesus was making is that if you are hoping and expecting something, it is essential to be prepared for it. You can’t say “I will have a breakthrough in my business and marriage,” but neglect to make yourself to be in a position to receive that breakthrough. God promises that the very thing you are hoping shall come to pass, but you must not only expect but also prepare yourself. Ideas for Preparing Yourself for Breakthrough So if you’re expecting a breakthrough in your business and marriage, here are some ideas for not only believing, but also start preparing yourself today. You’re doing one right now, which is surrounding yourself with books, lessons, and courses on business and marriage Pray over the situation every morning (read my previous post) Go to marriage retreats, and do the homework they assign before arriving (that’s the prep work I’m talking about) Seek out 1-2 brothers or sisters in Christ and ask them to pray and fast for you Remove things in your business and marriage that you know don’t belong anymore We all can create a short, but powerful list of ideas on how to prepare ourselves physically and mentally for the breakthroughs coming our way. And imagine if we stuck to the list and created the daily habits. Wouldn’t God now see our true hearts desire for change? Wouldn’t our spouses and business associates begin to see the expectancy radiate from us in the form of hope and faith? When they see us passionately expecting success, they too become inspired and fired up to step in and help in any way! Godpreneur Rule: Godpreneurs know that preparation leads to a breakthrough. #BusinessBibleStudy #MarriedEntrepreneurs #GodpreneurAcademy 21 Days of Breakthroughs in Business and Marriage This course provides needed strength and faith, in the truth of God’s holy Word, for breakthroughs in both your business and marriage. • Suffering Well

I had a goal of having my first million dollar year by the age of 30. Then I changed it to 35. Then I changed it again. We entrepreneurs have goals in our businesses. Some of us it’s monetary. Others it’s launching a new product or service. Every year we don’t accomplish a goal, we suffer. The suffering eats at us. We see other people succeeding and it makes us jealous, almost paralyzing us from moving forward. But what if the suffering was part of the entrepreneurial process? I’ve suffered a lot in my business. It comes with being an Entrepreneur.  Why? Because Entrepreneurs have a tremendous responsibility and calling for God and He wants to make us the best possible steward of the money and blessings that come with success. In the bible, we read that Joseph was either a slave or in prison for the 20 years after his captivity. Imagine suffering for 20 years!!! Makes your problems seems smaller, right?. God could have released him at any point, but God’s plans for your business are much bigger than our perceived suffering. You won’t know God’s full reasoning immediately, and you may never know it until you’re face to face with Him.  Until then, we are called to know and understand that suffering is a path we must walk in the marketplace to get to the place God needs us for His will. My suffering has given me endurance. I can run further and faster! My faith is growing, I don’t despair as much anymore in my business. What’s your attitude during times of suffering? Are you angry that God hasn’t let you reach your goals and visions yet? #FindMyCalling #FindingMyPurpose #ShareYourTestimony

  • The Pleasure of Going through Pain in Business

I’ve had the pleasure of going through pain in business. I had a client include me in a multi-million dollar lawsuit, which propelled me in a new direction for my business. I had a client fire me and request money back, which led me to fundamentally change the way I do business and opened my eyes to a brand new opportunity. When faced with adversity, I know I choose one of two roads: either I internalize it and let it make me bitter, or I give the pain to God (my defender) and let the spirit process the emotions and feed my mind new positive thoughts that lead me to finding opportunities. Based on my own account, God uses pain I experience in my business to do one of 4 things for me: mold my character teach me something important grow me in some way make a difference in the lives of others How can I look at the list of benefits above and not thank God that I go though pains in business? Business is about solving problem after problem.  Nothing happens when you’re jumping from happiness to happiness.  Happiness come from problems being solved. The bible says "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 NIV The key for me is choosing to give the problem to God and not keeping it to myself.  God will never waste pain in your business that is offered to Him. When I offer my struggles in business to God, it removes it from contaminating my mind and opens me up to receive the solution.  In the torment of pain, I choose to spend my emotional energy and mental capacity on thinking logically. I need to pass this off in order of move on. #ShareYourTestimony #IncreaseEnergy #SharpenLeadership

  • Choosing God Over Business Every Morning

We, entrepreneurs, have a battle between choosing God and choosing our business, and this often begins when we wake up in the morning. I've been waking up in the Word every morning for years. It's not easy. If I still struggle to set aside the 100 things I have to do that day for my business, I know others struggle. Today, I want to give you practicals steps; you can take first thing in the morning to help you choose God and make studying His Word your priority. My entire mission with Daily Godpreneur is to guide you to trust, follow, and serve the Lord in your business, DAILY. What's Consuming Your Thoughts in the Morning? Do you use an alarm of some sort? Do you hit snooze once, twice, seven times? Do you lie in bed to “thaw out” for a few minutes, or do you get right up? There are many ways to wake up, but most of us probably lie in bed for a moment to orient ourselves. As you start the process of orienting yourself, do you begin to think about your day and all that is before you? Where do your thoughts go as your mind becomes alert? We have a choice to make every day, every morning when we wake up. Will it be God, or will it be self? It is amazing how quickly we can make ourselves, our schedules, or our to-do lists first in our thoughts and priorities. How often do we think of ourselves first and then maybe later at some point give a passing thought to God whom we proclaim as Lord and Savior? What about you? What is foremost in your mind and heart when you wake up? Who comes first? How do you spend the start of your day? Over the next couple of days, we will look at a practical way we can choose each day to be less self-focused and more God-focused. Begin today by taking a moment to identify the things, the thoughts, the activities, or the emotions that can consume you and keep you from worshipping God and serving Him. Guided by a Plan As we seek to choose the Lord each day, it’s necessary to remember that we all have a desire to follow our flesh and think or do whatever “feels” right or seems easiest. As Paul argues in Romans 8, there is no choice for those outsides of Christ. Their sin entirely controls them. Believers, Paul says, have the Holy Spirit living within them. By the Spirit, we are becoming more and more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to overcome our flesh. As Joshua told the Israelites, we can choose. How might this choice play itself out, especially first thing in the morning? It seems that most people usually spend a few minutes gathering their thoughts for the day before they get out of bed in the morning. In these moments, it can be a temptation to choose to think first about our day, schedule, what we need to do, who needs to be where, etc. Before we know it, we can fall prey to the lies of the enemy, begin dreading our day or feeling overwhelmed by it, and then try to tackle it as soon as our feet hit the floor. What if, instead, we were to choose the Lord? What if, by God’s grace, we would choose to fight our sinful flesh, put it to death as God’s Word instructs us, and set our minds on His way instead of allowing our thoughts to run amok? Practically, how would this look? We would begin by thanking the Lord for the gift of a new day and acknowledge that He alone is sovereign, that He alone is in control—not us. And then, by His grace, we would put aside our thoughts, our concerns, and our agendas and draw near to God by spending time in His Word and prayer. No matter how much we think about our day or our agenda, the reality is that the day belongs to the Lord. If we start each day, intentionally acknowledging this and acknowledging who we are in Christ, this practice could easily transform how we think about and live out the rest of the day's moments. Creating Anchors of Reminders It might be a good idea to write Joshua 24:15 or a similar passage on a 3×5 card and place it next to your bed or on your bathroom mirror so you can be reminded first thing in the morning to choose God. You can even paste the verse in a reminder in your calendar or schedule it as an alarm on your phone. Seeing Scriptures such as these first thing in the morning or throughout the day can help you immediately see and think truth and be able to focus on it instead of the temporary things of your up-coming day. We need God’s grace, and this is a reminder that we can choose to set our mind on God, or we can choose to set our mind on ourselves. As soon as we awake, we allow our thoughts to be focused on ourselves or our circumstances. What would we feel in the end? We'll feel discouraged! By contrast, if we choose to pray and seek the Lord instead, there can be peace, hope, and renewal. Remember, you can choose each day whom you will serve. And though it will take a moment-by-moment reorienting of your mind throughout your day, this choice begins first thing in the morning. So as you enter into this daily choice, trust in the One who created the new day and you. He will provide the grace you need to make each of the days ahead, His. Take a moment now to pray and seek the Lord. Ask Him to help you choose Him first each day and moment-by-moment throughout the day. Write out Joshua 24:15 or copy and paste it as a reminder into your calendar. May God be your all in all! #BecomeDisciplined

  • How To Benefit from Your Terrible Experiences as a Married Entrepreneur

I had a business friend call me once to tell me he was on the brink of divorce. He and his wife had been having problems for years, and he felt this was the end. As the situation couldn’t be worse, his business wasn’t doing so great. I could hear the defeat in his voice, and he let his guard down to open up to me about his problems in business and marriage. He loved his wife and didn’t know why this was all happening to him. That’s when I unleashed my testimony on him. I began to open up about my struggles and how I was able to overcome them. I wasn’t polite or ashamed. I was completely transparent and direct. I let him know that this was the time he needed to pick up his pants and FIGHT. There are certain times in our business and marriages where we ask God “why am I going through this?” We wish the problems would go away and that things could return to when they were great. We desire to be in a loving marriage and profitable business, but it doesn’t seem to be working out in our favor. But what if our challenges in business and marriage are meant to help someone else in their troubled times. What if our bad breaks became someone else’s breakthrough? What if humanity is where it’s at today because someone else had a struggle, overcame it, and lived to tell the story to inspire someone else? The Bible says: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3‭-‬4 NIV) Here’s a guy who has come to understand that his trials and tribulations can be used as a testimony to help others going through similar situations in their lives. And Paul’s frankness and openness have helped so many of us for nearly two thousand years to whether the storms of life and come out victorious. Paul’s example can be your story too! God could be using the challenges you’re facing in marriage and business to help another entrepreneur going through the same thing. And you know what happens when you help someone else through their trials? You strengthen your resolve! It becomes even more difficult for the enemy to attack your business and marriage in the same way now that you’re testifying about the victory to others. See, that’s the exact thing I did to my friend. I started to share all of my marriage and business problems, and how with the help of God, I was able to overcome them. Now, my own business and marriage will benefit from sharing my testimony with him. Your disappointments can be a blessing to yourself and others. Your marriage can help other entrepreneurs keep their families together. Your experiences set you up to help others on victories of their own. So no matter what you are going through today, God wants to bring you through it gracefully so you can share the victory with others! This means that your problems in business and marriage are only temporary. You can rejoice TODAY knowing that these issues are just for a moment and joy is around the corner. No matter the size of the issues in the boardroom or the bedroom, you have to fight through it, trusting and believing that God will not leave you or forsake you. You have a testimony, and God wants to use it. We Godpreneurs need to trust God’s plans and not our own. As business owners, we know where we want our businesses to be this time next year. As spouses, we know where we want our marriages to elevate to next year. We hope our plans are aligned with God’s and we’re ready to change course if they’re not. He will lead our marriages and businesses in a better way if it’s His will. We won’t know why, but we don’t need to know. All we know is that He’s got the bigger picture laid out and we only need to see the road ahead of us. This means that we don’t have to wait until some crazy big breakthrough to start sharing the victory with others. Victories happen every morning we wake up still married and still pursuing our Godprenurial dreams. We don’t have to understand the big picture, only what we’re being brought through already. Isn’t it awesome to know God takes care of seeing down our road so we can take a moment to look back and help another entrepreneur in need? Imagine if all of us took our unexpected turns in business and marriage that didn’t quite work out the way we envisioned and used those experiences for the benefit of those around us. I’m certainly grateful that God is using me to help my friends in need. I pray He’ll use your experiences to see you through to more breakthroughs in your business and marriage. Godpreneur Rule – Godpreneurs praise God in our storms because they will serve as someone else’s victory. #MarriedEntrepreneurs #BusinessBibleStudy 21 Days of Breakthroughs in Business and Marriage This course provides needed strength and faith, in the truth of God’s holy Word, for breakthroughs in both your business and marriage.
