  • Help, Iā€™m Stuck Trading Time for Money

    In my business itā€™s very easy to get into the rhythm of doing project after project. People always need logos and websites. Ā The projects take anywhere between 2-4 days, and if you are busy like me, you could be doing work for weeks before getting a break. I also have other endeavors that are more in the space of speaking, coaching and consulting. Ā This side of my business also brings me tons of joy. Ā Itā€™s a huge field with so much reward because I get to help many people at once, as opposed to one-on-one branding work. Thereā€™s a huge difference between doing a project for a client and creating an online course that will help hundreds and thousands. Iā€™ve struggled for years in this constant tug of war between client work vs. the personal development space. Ā Itā€™s not a matter of either or, I like doing both. Ā The problem is that Iā€™m so busy with the client work that I canā€™t get to developing the other work that will bless so many others. Where do you think God would want us Godpreneurs? If we could admit to ourselves, some of us are stuck playing in the little league of trading time for money, and meanwhile thereā€™s a major league of opportunity waiting for our true gifts and talents to be stirred. I have other dreams and goals that I want to accomplish. Ā I want to create more online courses, host more live events, speak at more conferences and write more books and blog posts. But I also get stuck in the project work. What do we do when we feel like weā€™re stuck in the rat race of doing work, yet thereā€™s this other burning desire to do so much more and serve so many other people? Maybe youā€™re not at my point, where youā€™re eager to get out and teach and show others what youā€™ve learned. Maybe youā€™re still in the ā€˜project basedā€™ mindset, but you too feel trapped because thereā€™s so much more to do. Listen, God didnā€™t sow gifts inside of us so we could use it for a few people, he sowed seeds of greatness in us so that through us, God could do more for others. I know many people (like me) who are playing the small business client game yet they feel discontent where they are at. Ā They know thereā€™s a bigger play to make, a pivot to a bigger growth opportunity, but theyā€™re afraid: Afraid they wouldnā€™t have great content to contribute Afraid theyā€™d bring on too much work, so it would all come crumbling down Afraid of failure Afraid of rejection or being made fun of by industry colleagues But what if Godā€™s been waiting on us to trust him and take that leap of faith into this new dimension of business? Reminds me of the closing statements Paul wrote to The Ephesians, this great pep talk exit: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us," Ephesians 3:20 NIV In todayā€™s bible reading, Paul was reminding them in the end that they had a great power now, and to use that to their advantage and growth. God wants to turn you and I lose to use us for much greater things. Ā If you havenā€™t gotten this bug yet, then you will. Ā Godā€™s still tweaking a few things in you, then heā€™ll reveal. But for those of us that have been called to this, itā€™s time to stand up and answer the calling of taking our gifts and talents to all new levels.   • Becoming a Godpreneur ā€“ Part 7: Influencing Others

    The other day a friend of mine was calling for career advice. He has a cushy 9-5 position but wants more. Heā€™s tried flipping homes and selling insurance on the side. Neither has worked. So I began probing and asking deeper questions about purpose and passion. When I asked him what he did at his job, his voice and energy changed. Come to find out the guy is a genius at his job and they rely on him to troubleshoot major problems when computers and servers go down. I was on to something. I recommended that he see his current job as an entrepreneurial venture, invest in himself, and continually seek out better contracts in his space. He had an ā€˜ah-ha!ā€™ moment and said the words that I love to hear: ā€œAlex, how do you do what you do? Youā€™re a freaking fortune teller or something like that.ā€ I told him I canā€™t take any of the credit, that God has blessed me with the calling to help others find their ā€˜born to do identityā€™ and that we are all called by God to help others for his greater purpose. We Godpreneurs have the ability to be a light for others to see God in us. This guy thought I was a fortune teller, but I quickly corrected him and said that that was God within me. We can either take the credit or give the credit to where itā€™s due. God hopes that youā€™ll give the credit to Him because it will ultimately bring more people to Him, which is His main purpose for us. The Bible says: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16 NIV Godā€™s ultimate plan for your entrepreneurial life reaches beyond the visions heā€™s given you for your business. He has positioned you in your industry as a singular point of light. Youā€™re an influencer in a world that desperately needs to see something divine, something that is clearly not of this world. Above and beyond the achievements associated with your gifts and talents, he wants to draw people to himself. Our entrepreneurial visions are means to a greater end, namely the glory of God and the salvation of men and women. This is His ultimate objective, His ultimate desire. Imagine if our biggest prayers were that God would continue to make our light shine brighter for all the people around us to know Him more. Instead of praying for financial blessings or problems to go away (you can still pray that too), what if we also included a prayer to be a stronger light? If weā€™re obedient to Godā€™s ultimate calling (to be a light), donā€™t you think that it will produce more blessings and favor from God?
