I used to just think owning a business was just a means to an end: an end to my college debt, an end to my 9-5 career, an end to meet my financial goals of being financially free. At the end, being an entrepreneur is supposed to make me feel significant and accomplished. Sounds familiar? We all have a point where we WANT to be, but we aren’t there yet. This leaves us sometimes feeling empty and depressed because we’re focused on a future that’s not here yet. But God didn’t call us to focus on the future. Instead, we are called to work and create…in the PRESENT tense. Genesis 1:26-28 tells us that we are created in God’s image and that we are called to exercise dominion over the whole creation. Only God was, is, and always will be. Only God can operate on all levels of time, for eternity. He created everything, then essentially said do something with this. Me and you…we’re Godpreneurs and we’re called to make something out of something TODAY. Some have the ability to take a tree and make a table; others to take clay and make a statue; I’m called to take a thought and design a logo and website from it. Yes, I need to work to provide for myself and my families… a means to an end. The problem is that we think that “end” is sometimes while we’re here on earth, but we’re a part of a redemption story. The bible says: "For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets". (Acts 3:21 NLT) The means to an end is restoration. The end is really the beginning. But we’re not thinking this way. The gospel of Christ not only saves our souls but also restores us to what God created us to be. Our businesses today on earth matters for God’s restoration of all things because he restored us in Christ. We have a huge calling to respond TODAY: continue to create. I believe our entrepreneurship continues in the new heavens and new earth – minus the blood, sweat, and tears. In heaven, we will sing a “new song” (Revelation 5:9). Creativity continues. Think of the infinitely creative God coming up with infinite ventures for all eternity. Have you ever told yourself the lie “I’m useless. I don’t have any gifts or talents to offer.”? I have. More than once. It often comes after a failed project or business venture. Sometimes it’s a client that emphatically reminds that to me. Sometimes it’s my bank account whispering it to me, as if computer screens could talk. Even the computer screen, too? Many entrepreneurs feel this way. We have lost our sense of dignity and self-worth, blinded from our own inherent creativity and God-given talents because the pressures of entrepreneurship got to our heads. When we fail to believe in the dignity of ourselves and others, we struggle to answer the call to creativity in our businesses and be all who God has created us to be. Made in the image of God, we have worth, value, and dignity that cannot be taken away from us. When we deny that truth, we deny part of God’s design for his people in the business marketplace. Genesis 1:26-28 states that human beings are made in the image and likeness of God. James 3:9 rebukes those who worship God with their mouths and yet curse someone else made in the likeness of God. We often fail to see the connection between the worthiness of God and cursing his image. Our value as Godpreneurs is inherent in our design, and we each reflect God’s intended purpose through our businesses. C.S. Lewis maintains in The Weight of Glory that, “There are no ordinary people. You have never met a mere mortal.” You – and your employees, vendors, contractors, and clients – possess dignity, worth, and value more than you even presently know. Humans are the crown glory of God’s creation, distinct from every other creature on earth. Godpreneurs, as image bearers of God, are given a central task to “rule over” creation (Genesis 1). God is the CEO, but we are like the Presidents of his kingdom. He is the founder of the company, but we are franchisees called to this creative task. With our God-given dignity and worth comes a great responsibility to care for God’s business creation. The kind of leadership and ownership we are to exercise is not to be heavy-handed, as Genesis 2:15 indicates. Mankind was placed in the Garden of Eden to care for and keep it. The mandate is to exercise caring stewardship over the business we create – NOT to use and abuse it as we please. Creativity plays a central role in developing a beautiful and productive garden, metaphorically speaking, in our own business culture and requires fresh, inspired thinking. The call to creativity is everywhere around us. Entrepreneurial gifts and creativity are expressed in building increasingly complex houses, buildings, walls, roads, etc. Genesis starts in a garden, but Revelation ends in a city. This is what we Godpreneurs are made to do – use our creativity, our gifts, and our abilities to develop the potential of the created order in the marketplace. When you figure out what you are made for, how you fit into God’s big picture of restoration, that’s when you truly flourish. Knowing my calling in business completely transformed my view on what I sell in the marketplace.  I used to think people come to me for logos and websites.  The more I understood my calling, the clearer I saw that what I really do is help people find what they were born to do, and then tell that story in the marketplace so that the very people the entrepreneur was supposed to help are magnetically attracted to him. I help God in his mission to bring everyone in alignment with what he created them for so that heaven becomes a place on earth because if everyone was doing what they were born to do, we’d live in an awesome place to do business! But I would have never come to this conclusion had I not first understood WHY calling is even important. All of our businesses play a part in God’s plan for the restoration of his kingdom. We have lost sight of (or never found) this perspective and consequently lost our sense of calling. So, why is knowing your calling important, and what does it mean for your business life? First, understand that there are two types of calling for entrepreneurs: Everyone’s Calling: All of us share a general calling in business – God calls us out of an old, sinful way of leading business into a new, redeemed, and faithful way of interacting in the marketplace so we can be the best example of Christ. My Calling: This type of calling to use the gifts and talents God has given us. For everyone’s calling, all of us are called to be faithful to the Lord in all areas of our lives – including our families, our church, and our nation. Particularly for business, we are called to a new way of running our businesses and faithfulness to our Lord. For each of us individually, all of us are also called to use specific gifts and talents God has given only to us. The bible says "To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues." 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 When we are faithful to the entrepreneurial callings God has placed upon our lives, we will experience meaning, significance, and wholeness in our business. If our priorities are messed up, we will not. Calling impacts and orients your business life in a variety of ways: A sense of calling gives you perspective on what your business does. Whether you succeed or fail, you can sustain motivation to your calling if you remain faithful. Calling can keep you from compromising. Sometimes in your business dealings you face the temptation to compromise your values. You may be challenged to act unethically in order to advance against your competition or save money. You are called to be good stewards of your gifts. I Corinthians 12:8-10, Romans 12:6-8, and Ephesians 4:11-13, list various gifts in the body of Christ. Godpreneurs are called to know your gifts and to use them vigorously for his kingdom. Your “natural” gifts are your “created” gifts – given to you by God. The Fall has withered, misdirected, or twisted your natural gifts. However, the Holy Spirit can redirect these gifts to benefit both ministry and marketplace. Don’t expect a “perfect” use of your gifts. You live in a business world that is far from perfect. It’s a long and difficult road of refinement and focus to find the business and position within the business that fully fits your gifts. Even if you could land the perfect market to be in, you would find that it wasn’t perfect because your employees and clients aren’t perfect people. Although you shouldn’t expect perfection, you should strive to be a good steward of the gifts you were given. If we all knew our calling and how it impacts our brands and total business outlook, it would orient us to creating the business possible organization with the best products and services that were suited for us to create. #BusinessBibleStudy #FindMyCalling

My favorite question to ask my clients looking for branding is: If you could do any job or start any business you wanted to do, you had unlimited time to get further training, unlimited money, and you could not fail, what would you do? According to research, the Barna Group reported in one survey that 75 percent of U.S. adults say they are looking for ways to live a more meaningful life. Only 40 percent of practicing Christians surveyed said they have a clear sense of God’s calling on their lives. I see this every day in my office too, these exact numbers. It’s encouraging to me because it fires me up, even more, to help others find their calling (which happens to be my calling). It’s also cool because I’m witness to a quest for meaning that I see many entrepreneurs going through right now. We all want meaning and significance, it’s just not that easy to uncover on our own. We often feel lost in our businesses, unsure of what God desires for our next move and how we can impact his kingdom through the marketplace. How can we know what God is calling us to do in our business? Thankfully, this doesn’t have to be a fruitless quest. We can find our calling in Entrepreneurship and lead meaningful businesses. The bible says "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work". 1 Corinthians 12:4‭-‬6 NIV The calling God places on your business reveals itself through prayer, reflection, and trusted input from friends and relatives. 1. Remember that we are called to be good stewards of our gifts. The Fall can blind us to the very nature of the gifts we have been given, but it is our job to discern our gifts and use them to God’s glory. We need the Spirit’s help and the help of others to gain clarity on how to best use the gifts God has given us. 2. God has made people for every position in the body of Christ. He has also made people for every position on the entrepreneurial flowchart. Some people – relatively few – are made to be CEOs. Some are best as freelancers. Others love to be in business partnerships. Some are made to be inventors. Others love running a small boutique. Remember, you are uniquely made with talents that God specifically entrusted to you. 3. Pay attention to your business history. When discerning your calling, it is helpful to give a thoughtful examination of your business. Note what you have enjoyed doing and feel like you have done well. List at least three illustrations in each period of your life: grade school, junior high, high school, college, post-college. Or do the same exercise but with the last jobs or businesses you had. Then share the details of what you enjoyed with a Godpreneur. Note the following: Any recurring subject matter. What place you play on a team. What kinds of challenges trigger your motivations. How and why you are motivated to learn. What primary gifts you use, and what are the ends and purpose towards which you drive. Paying attention to the way God has created you and finding a wise Christian entrepreneur willing to listen will reap dividends throughout your life as you seek to discover and pursue your calling. I’ve been at this entrepreneurship stuff since 2005. That’s the year I collected my last paycheck and set out on this exciting journey. It wasn’t until 13 years later when I finally realized the definition of success in entrepreneurship. Success is NOT making your first Million Dollars. Succeeding is NOT owning a big multi-national corporation with 100 employees. Finding success is NOT paying off all my college loans. In entrepreneurship, success comes down to one thing: not quitting. We are so easily distracted by what society deems as successful: fancy cars, nice watches, and fat stacks of $100 dollar bills thrown out on a bed to lay in. But all of those things aren’t as powerful as what I’ve discovered to be the anchor of success in business. The Bible says in Jeremiah 23:3-4, “But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the LORD. What I’ve come to learn from walking with God and consuming every word from the Bible through the lens of an entrepreneur’s walk is that God gives richer blessings to the Godpreneur that remains faithful. This verse in Jeremiah gives us a good clue: Faithful Godpreneurs will have no fear. Faithful Godpreneurs will lack for nothing. Faithful Godpreneurs will be fruitful. Faithful Godpreneurs will increase. Do you want to feel successful in your business? Stop chasing the things or this world and focus on your obedience to the calling God has called you to: business ownership. If you haven’t quit, if you’re waiting on God, and if you have faith that He will provide, then you are already more successful than 90% of the marketplace. You’re going better than you think you are! We are all interested in increasing. Godpreneurs should all desire to be fruitful – to lend and not borrow. We should not be afraid. God says these blessings come to those who remain faithful and stay the course out of Godpreneurship. No matter what, do not give up on your entrepreneurial dream. Remain faithful, because God promises great blessings to Godpreneurs who stay the course in their business. Godpreneur Rule: Godpreneurs stay faithful, committed, and obedient. #GainConfidence

When I got the inspiration to start my blog for Christian entrepreneurs, I started writing down all of these topics that I could write about. The topics ranged from things I had been through in my business to things I had learned while studying business at Cornell. I also realized that I could write about topics that I personally needed to make improvements on. How? Because I knew that if I was going to teach someone else about it, I’d need to study what the Word had to say about it, learn it for myself, and then be able to guide others. Writing became a way to improve on areas that I needed to work on, too. We Christian bloggers can all move into an entirely new way of life because the blog allows us to work from the inside out as we become more like Him because we’re studying and teaching is Word. A blog allows us to be remade. And the best part is it won’t feel forced! Why? Because we’re asking what He wants us to write about and we’re listening and learning by Him working in us. A blog allows us to do this process continually, because he also won’t reveal every topic all at once. He’s going to drip it out over time, at the right time. God teaches and guides us iteratively, through a process that builds on itself through each blog post we write about our lives. How do we know exactly what to blog about? The bible says: “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Luke 11:9 NIV) How you get inspired will be different than everyone else because you’re unique and God wants to use you in a different way than me. But I do know that whatever the topic, when you’re inspired, you have to treat that thought with extraordinary care. You can’t allow it to be forgotten or lost. You need to have a place where you collect them and revisit them. You can Have a Google doc you quickly open that has topics Start a Trello Board with topics Have a journal, or section of your journal, specifically for topics You need to preserve those spirit-led thoughts so you have a complete picture possible of who you are and what God wants to you share with others. So, let’s grab notebook or create a document, one dedicated to the purpose or writing down blog topics (yes, right now!) Let’s record what God’s revealed to us already. Let’s recall moments when we just knew he was speaking to us—maybe a trusted friend asked a question that there’s an answer to; or the story of a particular person in the Bible stood out from all the rest that can be blogged about; or we sensed God showing us something about ourself, in prayer. Gather all of these blog topics. Have a way to add more as more ideas come to mind. Protect and preserve them. As I write this blog, it’s early morning. I’ve got my glass of water, a cup of coffee, and I’m reclined back in my comfortable chair, legs crossed, and ready to write. I like writing in the morning. There’s a couple of reasons. First, if I don’t do it right away, I won’t do it at all. Second, it sets my heart up to be in a good mood for the rest of the day. Third, I can count on always having the time to write in the morning as long as I wake up early. We all need routine in our lives, especially if we’re going to commit to something. We need work routines, gym routines, eating routines, and of course, writing routines. What’s the perfect routine? And how do we connect to God consistently? That’s up to each of us to uncover individually. God created us uniquely, giving us all the ability to choose what brings us the most joy. Jesus says: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28‭-‬29 NIV) As a Christian blogger, this is your chance to come to Jesus consistently to be relieved of your burdens. The amazing part is that you get to help others at the same time! You were built by God to go to Him consistently. This consistent meeting with God is integral to being a successful helper to others through your blog. God created you to need and receive his loving care so that you could, in turn, love and care for others through your blog. A Christian blog allows us to be restored by him. (Psalms 23:1-6) When we learn to build a routine of meeting with God regularly, we can couple that time with blogging because we’ll be in a state of being abundant. This is where we get filled up, so we can overflow our thoughts and write to our readers. When we receive from God freely, we write freely, and we’re able to write about what we were created to help others with, therefore doing what we were born to do. Therefore, the key to finding the best time and routine to write is uncovered once we figure out the best time and routine to meet with God. If we neglect God time, we neglect the inspiration we need to write. We’re not coming to our creator, and instead, our jars are empty, the gas tank is low, and we aren’t running on all cylinders. And what will happen are we start to take from people rather than overflow into them. So, think about some things. Where is a good place you like to meet with God? Is it your backyard? Is it the parking lot at work? How do you like to sit? Do you like sitting or laying down? Do you like learning from the Bible on your phone, or a physical Bible? Do you like journaling on paper, on your phone, or a tablet? Do you like morning, afternoon while the baby naps, or nighttime? Make a list of things that make you happy. Avoid sad places and things. This list should move your heart, make your heart beat fast, or calm your heart. You should feel at peace. List things that make you feel restored and excite you to connect with God. This allows you to worship him while blogging. When I started writing to Christian entrepreneurs, I quickly understood two major things were happening. First, I was recording my business history for eternity. This means my children and their children would always be able to know what I went through. Second, by writing and using God’s word, I was showing everyone that I didn’t make it on my own, but that God did the work. As Christian bloggers called to speak into the lives of Godpreneurs (Christian entrepreneurs), our calling is to be faithful with the gift of teaching and discernment that God has given us. We can accomplish this by recording our business teachings electronically on the web for the world to see… FOR ETERNITY! We get to report on our faith, our lives, and of our gifts and talents so that generations will be impacted forever. The bible says: Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord. (Psalms 102:18 NLT) Someone wrote the Psalms above thousands of years ago. We’re still being influenced by it today. What you’re writing will impact lives. Maybe not at the beginning since nobody starts with thousands of active readers. But over time, your writings will be read. We need always to remember that we’re recording the promises of God as weblog to Christian entrepreneurs. God sees it all, and we will never know the real impact our writing will have in this generation or the next. We need to record our journey with God. He will bring that teaching to the right person to demonstrate His faithfulness to you. I thank God for the problems in my business. Why? The problems draw me closer to Him because I get to write about them and use the writing to overcome the problem. It’s quite a convenient relationship Sometimes it’s a problem of a client or business friend that I’m trying to solve. I had an entrepreneur friend going through marriage problems, so I decided I was going to write a series of blogs for married entrepreneurs finally. Occasionally, though, I find myself having a “creative block” when I can’t think of the way to help myself or the person through the problem. It’s frustrating because I set aside the time to write, I’m reading the Bible, I’m trying to get my mindset in the right place, but the solution isn’t coming together in a way that I know will impact the reader. I sometimes have to close my Bible, put down my phone (I blog from my phone), and just come back to it the next day. We Christian business bloggers at one point or another will face writers’ block – the condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing. We face this because of either, God wants us to do some more investigating and isn’t revealing the solution, or We forgot that God is the source of the solution and we’re not coming to Him authentically (we’re trying to solve it from your head instead of the spirit leading) This blockage of creative solutions could last a day or two, a week, or in some severe cases, months. The only way we Christian business bloggers can overcome this roadblock is by remembering that God has limitless creativity and has given us the holy spirit to inspire us, renew us, and raise us out of the darkness and into the light. The bible says: My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. (Psalms 45:1 NIV) You don’t need to fear because the love and creativity of God want to flow through you. First, God’s love wants to use you to help others. Second, you were created in His image; therefore, you too have infinite creativity, and He wants to use you to express it. If you’re struggling to find something to write about, think about recent problems people came to you with or a problem you had. If you’re still drawing a blank, call a few friends and ask them what their biggest struggles are in business. They will give you hot topics. If you’re struggling to find a solution to a problem to write about, take a break to pray and ask God to reveal the solution. You might need to take a day or two off to remove your mind from it and come back fresh and renewed. God called us to bring solutions to Christians worldwide struggling in business. He will not leave us to do this alone. He empowered us with the holy spirit so we could write for Him. Let’s choose to believe that the holy spirit is the one that will write, and start writing and let it flow knowing there’s life in the obedience of just having faith. Let me pray for your creativity: Father, thank you that you’ve given us the gift of blogging. In Jesus name, I declare creativity and renewal into the person reading this prayer. I pray the holy spirit take over their creative thoughts and that you’ll flow freely again to continue to bring Bible-based solutions to business problems worldwide. I remember those early days of starting my blog. It was exciting. I wasn’t that knowledgeable, but I had a dream, and it was fun! I didn’t have a lot of readers, but regardless of a number of likes, shares, or comments, nothing bothered me, nothing set me back. But that excitement turned to frustration when, after dozens of posts, I still wasn’t seeing any traction. Even my Christian business friends weren’t reading my blogs. Heck, they were the ones that encouraged me to start it, and THEY weren’t even reading them! To make things worst, my regular business (my branding agency) was experiencing some headaches of its own that required my time, so I found myself wanting to give up writing because the time spent on the blog could be spent helping my revenue-producing business grow. I was almost about to quit. We Christian bloggers all start with excitement. But what happens when the going gets tough for TOO LONG? Now, it’s not so fun to be in that situation. Bills pile up, nobody’s reading, technology isn’t being nice to us, social media interaction is weak, things aren’t perfect, people start to unfollowing us…the list goes on! But God’s not done. It’s not over. He’s asking us Godpreneurs to PERSEVERE! The bible says: So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (Hebrews 10:35‭-‬36 NIV) You can’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves when you started writing your blog. It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion. Christian blogging is a journey towards God. It’s a Pilgrimage we’re on. We do it for God and ourselves – the same. We don’t do this for the number of readers; we do it to impact ONE…. for THE ONE! At times it’s going to seem mundane, monotonous, repetitive, and unexciting. At other times it’s going to be frustrating, draining, and exhausting. But we can’t give up and throw it all away. We need to PERSEVERE. God promises a rich reward, and your reward is on the way. If the results you have been hoping for from your blog don’t seem like they’re happening anytime soon, remember that you need to persevere so that when your blog has done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. Fast forward a few years in my own experience with Daily Godpreneur and you can see I’ve built up a great following, written several books based off my blog posts, and my blog is featured as Top 3 Christian Business Blogs worldwide. Bloggers that I coach are dying to know what my secret is to writing that keep Christian business owners coming back for more. The truth is, God made us all uniquely and this means the style you write in is unique to you, and the way your reader learns is unique to them. But one thing is true: Christian entrepreneurs want material that is relatable and interesting, that tells a great story, or teaches them something valuable from the Bible. Here are 10 different writing styles for blog posts that will engage your Christian entrepreneur readers. Personal Narrative A personal narrative style essay is a written account of a true story of something that happened to you. This is usually how I write at Daily Godpreneur. Some bloggers (and maybe your pastor too) use a strategy called creative nonfiction in which the writing infuses elements of drama or humor to punch up the story without destroying the true and accurate account of events. Confessional I’ve seen a lot of mommy blog use the confessional style of writing. It generally tells a highly salacious or dramatic story in a confession style tone that is intended to irritate or shock. This style doesn’t always portray the exact truth in the name of highlighting shock value, which makes it different from personal narrative. Investigative Investigative Christian business bloggers seek to answer questions, mysteries, and business problems that are of great interest to readers. Writers use this style of blogging to unravel stories happening in industries and marketplaces. This typically uses a formula of writing that has the reader following clues and facts toward the resolution at the end of the post. Listicle A listicle – or list style post – is a simple bulleted blog post that gives a list of reasons, ideas, products, statements, or really anything that is neatly tied together under the theme of the headline. This is great for teaching and guiding readers that want quick lists. An example would be a post called “10 Great Christian Business Bloggers to Follow”. Rebuttal The bible is full of letters of rebuttal. John was great at this. He took issue with another teaching and responded to it in a public way. You can use this style to debate in which you avoid personal insults and focus on the way you feel is right. Open Letter An open letter is when a blogger posts a letter intended for one person but made available to the public. We see this in the letters John wrote to the apostoles. The true intended audience is the general public and therefor gives this particular style of writing a sense of either shaming or congratulating, but either way, calls out an individual or group to highlight something they may have said or done in a public way. Unlike the rebuttal post, the open letter often incorporates personal insults. Pictorial (Tutorial) A pictorial or tutorial blog post is a simple post with a series of pictures. You see these when you’re looking up how to change something on your website and the author screenshots the step-by-step instructions. It could be treated like a photo album of a recent trip, too. Possibilities are endless. Round-Up A round-up style post is generally used to describe a series of products, places, or events. For example, when I would go the the Nightclub and Bar Convention in Las Vegas (before Christ), I would interview all the relevant tradeshow booth owners and report back to my readers on the cool trends and what they missed out on. Instructional An instructional post tells the reader how to do something through a series of steps. This is your chance to teach practical things like “How to Start a Christian Business Blog”. Interview Some of the most fascinating blog posts are when you can interview a Christian business owner in order to share a specific story or expertise. Try changing up your writing style sometimes, it can help you through a period of writers block. It can also re-engage your readers and get them excited with new, fresh material. When I think of posture, I think about the way I’m standing. I know that if I want to perform at my best in a sport, or if I want to make sure my back is healthy, keeping proper posture is important. Posture also has another important definition. As a noun, it means a particular way of dealing with or considering something; it’s an approach or attitude. As a verb, it means to place (someone) in a particular attitude or pose. When I approach my writing, the way I “posture” myself and God is important, especially because one word from my writing can be the difference between success and failure for an entrepreneur. We Christian business bloggers need to make sure we are writing very carefully. God is entrusting us with His thoughts, and as beautiful of a thing it is, it carries a responsibility to treat it with the utmost respect. So what is the proper posture God wants us to have? This posture of writing is for us to make sure our words are communicating God’s will always. The bible says: My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. (Psalms 45:1 NIV) Throughout the Psalms, you will notice that the psalmist never wrote carelessly. His poems were his works, things he made – like a carpenter that makes a fine and useful piece of furniture. Your blogging is supposed to cost you something. Your writing is good material, therefore requires good workmanship. This means that before writing, you have to prepare your heart and mind. You have to digest what you want to say because it’s about to represent God! Your writing is your own, what you’ve personally been through with God. Your posture should be that of a ready writer, not just to pump out another post out of obligation or speed, but for exactness, elaboration, deliberation, and skilfulness expression. The holy spirit should fill us with enthusiasm, and therefore, our writing will be as perfect as the most skilled writers. We get to sit down calmly and write for the King of kings! This is posture. Not everyone was blessed with the skill of blogging for God. We shouldn’t restrain from the river flowing through us. Our hearts were gifted to glorify God through our writing. Like the Psalmist, our writing is poetry to the King’s ears, to enrich the service of Godpreneurs doing business God’s way. In 2018, my blog Daily Godpreneur was listed in the Top 30 Christian Business Blogs. I was 2nd on the list. I also placed 2nd in 2019. But it wasn’t always like this. When I started in 2014, I had ZERO readers. It surprised me that not even my mother could read and relate to my blog. It frustrated me that not even my close Christian friends that owned businesses would read my posts. It wasn’t until I started sharing my blogs on Facebook that I began seeing readers trickle in and sign up for my email list. This was in my 2nd year of blogging. I blogged to myself for an entire year! We bloggers can sometimes expect that when we start our journey, people will begin to flood in to read. Ok, maybe not immediately, but we at least expect to have traction within one year, right? This expectation can leave us frustrated, hurt, dejected, and wondering if blogging is even worth it. We seek to be understood, and we thirst for people to read, we yearn for people to share our posts, and pursue people to comment and interact because we believe that these things are the prize. We all want to be on the list of top Christian Business bloggers; however that’s not what God wants for us out of our writing experience. The bible says: For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. (Romans 8:24‭-‬25 NIV) A Christian business blogger’s faith is about expectation: the expectation of the fulfillment of God’s promises to you when you began writing. God promised you something. You felt something from the spirit move you to begin this journey. God’s given you a vision. And now, your Christian walk is taken to the next level when you realize that this is all a lesson in balancing the yearning of your blog’s success with the joy of the big moment when you feel people are listening and your thoughts are impacting others. We need to keep hope alive. We have to feed off of the hope in fulfilling God’s vision for our blogs, not the hope that a certain number of people will read, share, like, comment, and join our mailing list. My Daily Godpreneur emails go out daily to thousands of readers. I know this because I see the reports, but if it weren’t for the report, I wouldn’t believe it. Why? Because I don’t get thousands of replies, comments, and likes. Instead, I get an email reply here and there. I don’t write for the praises of others; however, it is nice to get an email reply once in a while to give me the confidence that at least one person is reading and being impacted by it. We bloggers can sometimes lose confidence when we don’t see interaction or engagement. This starts to make us think that nobody is listening. When we don’t feel heard and understood, our mind plays tricks, and we begin to think that we’re doing something wrong. But we Christian Business bloggers that are called to this ministry have the gift of prophecy. We can speak into an entrepreneur’s life in a way that can change their entire future. We don’t know who is up at 2 am reading our blog and having a moment of revelation that can change their entire trajectory. The bible says (1) Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. (3) But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. (1 Corinthians 14:1‭, ‬3 NIV) You have 66 books in the Bible, and each one is written for you. The writer didn’t know at the time that you would be reading it, and your life would change 2000 years later. Same with your Christian business blog; no matter how much content is out on the internet, your topic matters, and it will impact someone and some time. You may think your blog is too small, you don’t have enough readers, but for the one person that reads it at the right time, you’ve done your job, and God’s using your blog to change lives. Because we bloggers desire and have the gift of prophecy, we need to be bold with our writing and the expectation that someone is going to be changed by it. Since we believe that we were called to blog, then we need to act like professional bloggers. This confidence helps us turn our business experiences into prophecies in our writing for other Christian entrepreneurs. With our new confidence, let’s be bold to launch our new blog, create ebooks, sell courses, and believe that God wants to use us in a might way! Whatever we do, let’s do it in confidence that God gave us the vision to impact others through our blogging. There are times in my writing where I feel lost, unable to come up with creative ideas, and not sure about the next steps for my blog. It feels like I’m walking in the wilderness with no clue about where to go or how I’m going to get out. These moments of confusion and ‘going blank’ happens often. At first, I thought I was a failure, I did something wrong, and I needed to fix something on the blog. I would react by looking at every single aspect of my process and sometimes make drastic changes. We Christian business bloggers will experience this “wilderness” many times on this journey of business ownership. It happens when we run out of topics or are overloaded with topics and can’t figure out the next thing to write about. We can stare at our phones, journals, or computer screens, and it’s like our creativity went blank. What if instead of beating ourselves up about this blockage, believing that it’s something we need to fight, we see this ‘wilderness season’ as a time God wants to take us on a journey alongside Himself to help us course-correct, adjust, and come back stronger? God will use whatever He can to get our attention. He needs a way to shut our minds down enough so we can see all of Him. What if writer’s block was God wanting to talk to us more intimately? The bible says: Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, (Luke 4:1 NIV) Jesus, even full of the holy spirit, was led into the wilderness for 40 days. During that time, he was alone, the enemy tempted him, but he didn’t seem afraid or fearful. Instead, it looks like he embraced the experience and, as we know, he does come out stronger, emboldened, and prepared for the ministry he was about to lead. As you go along your Christian business blogging journey, you can fight the moments of writer’s block, or you can embrace it as a time that God wants to spend with you in the wilderness. When you go into the wilderness with God, there’s usually something He’s looking to change about your character. These are moments of sanctification and consecration – God purifying our hearts and setting us apart for a great purpose coming up! The Holy Spirit sustained Jesus during his 40 days, and the same spirit that was in him is in you today too! The Holy Spirit will guide you, hold you, and reveal to you the new way. The wilderness season is hard for all of us Christians. Either God is going to do a work in us, or we’re going to allow the enemy to win this battle. The good news is that we’re not alone, and now that we know the truth, we can face our next writer’s block with finesse and gracefully ride it out. Imagine if we all saw writer’s block ad fortification and strengthening for the next season of our blogging?
