  • Finding My Calling in Business: Part 2 – Called to Entrepreneurship Today

I used to just think owning a business was just a means to an end: an end to my college debt, an end to my 9-5 career, an end to meet my financial goals of being financially free. At the end, being an entrepreneur is supposed to make me feel significant and accomplished. Sounds familiar? We all have a point where we WANT to be, but we aren’t there yet. This leaves us sometimes feeling empty and depressed because we’re focused on a future that’s not here yet. But God didn’t call us to focus on the future. Instead, we are called to work and create…in the PRESENT tense. Genesis 1:26-28 tells us that we are created in God’s image and that we are called to exercise dominion over the whole creation. Only God was, is, and always will be. Only God can operate on all levels of time, for eternity. He created everything, then essentially said do something with this. Me and you…we’re Godpreneurs and we’re called to make something out of something TODAY. Some have the ability to take a tree and make a table; others to take clay and make a statue; I’m called to take a thought and design a logo and website from it. Yes, I need to work to provide for myself and my families… a means to an end. The problem is that we think that “end” is sometimes while we’re here on earth, but we’re a part of a redemption story. The bible says: "For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets". (Acts 3:21 NLT) The means to an end is restoration. The end is really the beginning. But we’re not thinking this way. The gospel of Christ not only saves our souls but also restores us to what God created us to be. Our businesses today on earth matters for God’s restoration of all things because he restored us in Christ. We have a huge calling to respond TODAY: continue to create. I believe our entrepreneurship continues in the new heavens and new earth – minus the blood, sweat, and tears. In heaven, we will sing a “new song” (Revelation 5:9). Creativity continues. Think of the infinitely creative God coming up with infinite ventures for all eternity. It is not a stretch to anticipate entrepreneurship being part of that “Great Adventure.” A Godpreneur’s business is a means to an end, and that end begins in eternity in heaven. #FindMyCalling #BusinessBibleStudy

  • Overcoming Obstacles to Launching Your Idea – Step 2: Words of Assurance

Maybe you don’t know this yet about me, but I started a non-profit back in 2009 after my brother, Jose, passed away. We created a scholarship fund for health students wanting to go on their first medical mission trip. I go on these trips too, even though I’m not medical. I’m the “business” side of things. I help set the vision, coordinate with locals to see more patients, forge new partnerships, and lead the company in our fundraising campaigns. While on one of my missions to the Dominican Republic, a lady pulled me aside because she said she had a word for me. She started speaking in tongues, her eyes closed, she placed her hand on me and raised her voice even more. Needless to say, I was pretty “weirded” out but the experience. After the prayer that I couldn’t understand, she then told me that God has a great vision for us in her country, and He had selected me to bring it to life. She started prophetically speaking into my life and told me not to be afraid that God has my back. What she didn’t know was around that time, I was questioning whether to continue these trips. They are a lot of hard work, months of planning, and took away resources from me building my other companies. I was even considering pausing the non-profit until my other ventures were more stable. The message from the woman, as weird as it was delivered, was what I needed to launch my non-profit into a whole new season of growth and expansion. I had never experienced something supernatural like this before – People speaking in tongues and prophesying into my life. It was the first time I experienced what I usually saw on YouTube. It was weird. It was uncomfortable. But it felt so real, so amazing, so in tune with what I needed to hear at that exact time. We Godpreneurs are in a unique place to see and receive supernatural things like this happening in and around our businesses. But if we’re honest with each other, it’s all a bit “weird.” We think that this stuff is for phony preachers at those extreme charismatic churches that operate in the supernatural. But we see God working in “weird” ways thought out the Bible, why can’t He do it now? Is the supernatural weird, or is our fear towards it misaligned? How can we change our attitudes to be more open to seeing and experiencing the supernatural in our businesses? It’s happening all around us, especially when we’re stuck, questioning, and in need of immediate answers. In the story of Peter walking on water, the disciples had also experienced something that would have freaked anyone out. The bible says: Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. (Matthew 14:22‭-‬26 NKJV) Jesus first appeared to them like a ghost, walking on water. They were afraid and freaked out. We would all be! During a storm that could have very well taken their lives any moment, Jesus shows up, FREAKING them out, then Jesus immediately said to the twelve, “’Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid’” (verse 27). If you were honest, supernatural things sometimes seem out of place when it comes to launching your business ideas. But your ideas are an extension of your calling; therefore, God can work in it too. If something “weird” happens while taking your ideas to the next level, something out of the ordinary, and borderline a miracle, don’t be afraid to give the credit to God. Just because you’ve never experienced it before doesn’t mean God isn’t going to start now. It’s easy to be critical of others who live and breathe in the supernatural, but I believe you and I were all called to live in this higher place of understanding. When God shows up in your business visions in a way you’ve never seen before, don’t be disturbed. Immediately thank God, journal about the experience, and wait for more! We can’t think for a second that we’ve seen all we’re going to see of God in our lives. We can’t limit the way God can show up and breathe life into our businesses and ideas. God won’t leave us second guessing whether He’s trying to send us a message. It will always be accompanied by assurance that will give us comfort. God’s going to come close to us as we get closer to launching the business He created us for. We Godpreneurs shouldn’t be afraid. We should EXPECT it. After all, we are launching a business for God. #BusinessBibleStudy #LaunchingMyBusiness Overcoming Obstacles to Launching Your Idea Join Us on a 12-Days Business Bible Plan to learn Overcoming Obstacles to Launching Your Idea. • Stop Rushing Everything in Business – Part 2: Slowing Down Increases Love

Owning an agency can be stressful sometimes because clients bring me “rush” projects that I have to deliver on in a shorter than expected time frame… Or else! When a project is set to “rush,” everyone’s temper is shorter. The project manager is less patient, the designers are more stressed, and the clients are less forgiving. The entire project experience is under incredible pressure. I’m the first to say that there is a good type of pressure when a project has a deadline to meet. But that’s different than a project that gets thrown at me last minute because of the effects of a society that is always in a rush. I’ve lost clients, damaged relationships, and hurt my reputation because of rushing marketing campaigns or one of my services. When my agency is rushing, there’s no room for love. Instead, all that love and comradery gets set aside, and emotions start running high. The chances for a nuclear explosion in the relationship increase tenfold. Rush = No Love We all have situations in our business were being in a rush or hurrying through a process completely shuts off the friendliness and love we have for each other. Instead, we become short with staff, curt in our conversations, and touchy about tasks. When we’re rushing, we’re mostly doing the opposite of loving. Love requires time, and the rush is the absence of time. Rushing our people, products, or services is the antithesis, the arch-enemy, and the destroyer of loving relationships, lovely projects, and love-filled initiatives. Rush and love are like oil and water – they can’t co-exist in a healthy relationship in our businesses. So how do we stop the rush-crazed pace we’re demanded to operate under, especially in environments where it seems everything is a rush job? If we’ve been used to years of hurrying through everything, how can we change to slow down and love more? And what entrepreneur wants to “slow down?” It’s a time-consuming initiative that flys against reaching our goals as fast as possible. It takes a great deal of time to love well, and there are no shortcuts around it. The bible says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” (John 13:34‭-‬35 NIV) God put love in the highest place of commandments. Love God and love your neighbors. God didn’t design business to be a rushed and hurried experience. Rush is where the enemy creeps into the entrepreneurial journey to remove love from the equation, therefore removing God even if it’s just temporarily. No love = Bad for Business All of your worst moments as an entrepreneur will come because something was rushed. A sale that feels rushed will cause buyers remorse, and they’ll ask for their money back. A service that’s rushed will make clients feel robbed, and they won’t come back. A cooked meal that’s rushed won’t taste as good, and you’ll have to redo the order (the other day the ham in my breakfast sandwich was still cold, and I sent it back). When you’re behind on appointments, rushing through an endless to-do list, and trying to do too much in a short time, that’s when the love goes out the door and in comes the anger, loss of patience, and tension that sucks up love and replaces it with a half-hearted effort. Still, need more proof? Rushing to open a store that still needed some cleaning or fixing may damage the brand’s image in the marketplace. And could you imagine your heart surgeon rushing through your surgery because he has to make it to the 6 pm CrossFit class!? God First Business = love We have to make a conscious effort to personally change our mindset in the fast-paced world we live in if we want the culture of our companies to change. How we relate to people is a test of our character, integrity, and love. Do we love our customers and employees if we’re always in a rush and demanding that they be on our same level or hurry too? Are we going to fall into the enemy’s traps of snapping at someone or completing a project out of anger and frustration? Love is patient; it’s not rushed. God could have made fruit grow overnight, but instead, it’s a slow process to create the best quality. We Godpreneurs need to operate our businesses at a new speed – a spiritual speed that lets us be present and aware of our state of emotions. Then, we can be the salt and light God needs us to be in the marketplace. We have to represent God well – and God is love, and love is a different speed than the rate at which the world operates. We run with the enemy, or we can walk with God. Godpreneurs choose the former. Today, when the interruption comes (because you will be tested today), instead of feeling rushed and trying to hurry to meet someone’s needs, look for ways to slow the process down and be fully present in love. Imagine if we all increased our capacity to show love in the marketplace by not being affected by the rush and hurry all around us. How much better would our products and services be?. #FindMyCalling #ArticulatingMyIdeas
