When I was growing up my branding agency, my dream was to have five employees. I thought “Man, I would be so happy the day I have five employees.”
Then that day came, and I was happy for a moment, but the minute I saw another agency had more employees, I became discontent and desired to take it to 10 employees. I thought it’d be totally satisfied with 10.
You can see where this story is going.
The irony is that things got WORST then more I grew. More employee issues, more responsibilities, and more tax liability!
Ultimately, having more employees never quenched my thirst the way I thought it would.
And when it comes to making a lot of money, it’s the same way.
We Entrepreneurs often think that money will speed up our satisfaction. We believe it’s the cure to all our problems. And while it might pay off debts and get us paying bills on time, there’s a deeper satisfaction we truly desire that will never be filled by money…but unfortunately, we won’t learn this lesson until we get there…to the day we can say “I made a million dollars this year.” How do I know? Because 10 out of 10 people told me so.
They echoed what the Bible points out in Ecclesiastes 5:10
"The lover of money will never be satisfied."
Like my desire for more employees, there is never an amount of money that is enough for our companies. We think that money will bring us security, but that delivery got lost in the mail.
So if money can’t bring us entrepreneurs true satisfaction, then what can?
How do we stop the thought pattern that if we just had a million dollars, our problems would disappear?
The bible says:
"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 NIV)
