  • Unlock True Happiness in Your Business: The Secret to Contentment Over Money

When I was growing my branding agency, I dreamed of having five employees. I thought, “Man, I would be so happy the day I have five employees.” Then that day came, and I was happy for a moment, but the minute I saw another agency had more employees, I became discontent and desired to take it to ten employees. I thought it’d be totally satisfied with ten. You can see where this story is going. The irony is that things got WORSE the more I grew. More employee issues, more responsibilities, and more tax liability! Ultimately, having more employees never quenched my thirst the way I thought it would. And when it comes to making a lot of money, it’s the same way. We Entrepreneurs often think that money will speed up our satisfaction. We believe it’s the cure to all our problems. And while it might pay off debts and get us paying bills on time, there’s a deeper satisfaction we truly desire that will never be filled by money…but unfortunately, we won’t learn this lesson until we get there…to the day we can say “I made a million dollars this year.” How do I know? Because 10 out of 10 people told me so. They echoed what the Bible points out in Ecclesiastes 5:10 "The lover of money will never be satisfied." Like my desire for more employees, there is never an amount of money that is enough for our companies. We think that money will bring us security, but that delivery got lost in the mail. THE PROBLEM So if money can’t bring us entrepreneurs true satisfaction, then what can? How do we stop the thought pattern that if we just had a million dollars, our problems would disappear? THE SOLUTION The Bible says: "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 NIV) The solution is for you to be content with what you have. Warning: This isn’t easy. It doesn’t come overnight. I’ve been spending YEARS practicing this. It’s better to start now rather than delay the tips I’m going to lay out below. Contentment won’t come naturally to you. You’re a Godpreneur. God created you to solve problems in the marketplace. There’s always a problem, so you’ll always have a desire to help more and do more. So, you have a double-edged sword. That being said, you and I have more opportunities to cultivate contentment through our businesses so that we can practice in many areas and have that bleed into the area of money. For example, I’m content when I finish a strategy session with someone and I’ve helped them break through to see their business in a new way. This brings me joy and satisfaction. I must remember that feeling and write it down on my list of victories. Remember that I have a Google Doc where I keep my business victories, and I write in it every week? I also started writing feelings of contentment there so I could remember the moments I felt satisfied. Do you enjoy sitting down with your coffee to read the Bible in the morning? Do you love chatting with your employees at lunch? Are you happy when you’re visiting your clients at their offices? When you notice a moment of contentment (where you forget about all the worries of the world), write it down in your list of victories. Tell yourself out loud, “I am content right now.” and snap your fingers twice. This will be a verbal cue to you, and it will create an anchor you’ll always be able to go back to. Stress and contentment can’t exist together at any one moment in time. They are opposites as opposed to one another. One is the enemy telling you that you’re not enough. The other is you praising God that what He’s done is enough. So, who will we let win? Stress or contentment? This is the million-dollar question. Contentment is what separates the borrower from the lender, the rich from the poor, and the wealthy from the person that feels that they have nothing. When we want something, it makes us stressed and gives us anxiety. But when we recognize contentment in our lives, it brings peace! It’s important for us Godpreneurs that we see this: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” (Hebrews 13:5-6). Becoming a millionaire won’t mean anything if we seek it for the continent. Only the love of God and the confidence that He provides will ever satisfy. Imagine if all of us Godpreneurs kept a record of whatever God gives us today. We would all be strengthened in our faith that God will continue to provide for our businesses in the future. Godpreneur Rule: Godpreneurs thank God for what we have in our businesses today. We trust in God to end our stress about money. #BusinessBibleStudy #GainConfidence #WorkLifeBalance Removing The Stress of Money in Your Business We don’t need more money, we need more God. • Got Unethical or Illegal Activities in Your Business? God Has a Way Out!

My accountant called me one day warning me that I was going to owe a lot in taxes that year. See, I had a really good year in sales that year. Business was booming! However, nobody wants to pay taxes, right? Although I had a great year, there was a seed of anger, resentment, and greed in me that was not thinking about how great of a year I had. So, when my accountant told me I'd be owing taxes, I immediately started scheming up ways to not pay the taxes. Then my accountant said these profound words: you should WANT to pay taxes! She explained that paying taxes means your company is doing great! Her reasoning was that the better the company does, the more it can contribute to the growth of this awesome country. Wow, I was mind-blown. That conversation shifted my mindset. Instead of plotting on how to work around paying taxes, I needed to focus on trusting that paying taxes are part of the plans God has for my company and that my business and that I'm part of the growth of my country! We all have ways where we are tempted into deceit. Sometimes we have friends propose illegal business opportunities. Other times our clients ask us to do illegal things on the books or in licensing, permits, contracts, etc. A “Godpertunity” would never come across your desk that asked you to do something illicit.  Although Robin Hood might have thought he was doing a good thing, it was illegal and not from God. In the Bible, we read the story of Nehemiah and his quest to rebuild the wall at Jerusalem. During that rebuilding project, he faces many obstacles that threaten the success of the entire endeavor. It got to the point where outsiders were sending spies and trying to play tricks on him so that he would commit a sin, be arrested, and the entire project of rebuilding the wall would come crumbling down. Case in point, in chapter 6, Nehemiah shows us his skill to discern a lie - a lie that could have ruined his career as a developer. Nehemiah speaking, says "But I said, “Should a man like me run away? Or should someone like me go into the temple to save his life? I will not go!” I realized that God had not sent him, but that he had prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. He had been hired to intimidate me so that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would give me a bad name to discredit me. (Nehemiah 6:11-13) Nehemiah was the governor and the leader of this rebuilding project. He needed to show a good example of undaunted courage. He has shown such resolve and confidence in God's calling over his life to rebuild the wall. He's so far into this project, he's thinking why now would he dishonor God and religion, and betray the people and city of God, by his cowardice? God forbid! Nehemiah feels, not that he would profane the temple by making it into a place of refuge, but that he would break the law by simply entering it. Being a leader and taking on BIG projects that bring glory to God in the marketplace means the enemy will expose you to many ways you can cut corners and perform illegal activities.  Some could lead to a damage of reputation and integrity, some risk relationships, others can lead you to jail. The greatest mischief our enemies can do us Godpreneurs, is, to frighten us from our duty, and to lead us to do what is sinful. We can't allow ourselves to decline doing a good work with a bad one. We can't always avoid getting advice from others, however, when we do, we need to reject what is contrary to the word of God. How can we stand firm against the enemy's various schemes to derail what God wants us to build (or rebuild) for Him? In my experience as a Godpreneur, I've only been able to discern the enemy's plots by staying in the word of God. We, Godpreneurs, need to be consistently studying the Bible. This is the only way we can guard ourselves against the anger, resentment, and greed that comes about when our business is being threatened. Following Jesus's examples is how we yield to impatience, discontent, or anger that could lead us to sin. We are Godpreneurs, our boss is God, and the Spirit would never lead us to deceit.  God will provide, always and forever.  We don’t have to engage in illegal activities, even if disguised as good.  If its illegal, its not of God. We can let our spirit guide us to stop doing anything illegal. P.S. I did a Business bible study called 40 Days to Restarting Your Business, God's Way. • Multiple Income Streams: A Biblical Perspective

I have several businesses and brands that produce my revenue. I also have some books on Amazon and online courses that sell without me having to do much. A few years back I learned something important in business: Don’t have all your eggs in one basket. My company’s revenue was 90% dependent on nightclubs, bars, and lounges. When I decided to leave the nightlife altogether, my entire paycheck left with it. I had to start over from scratch. It’s good for us entrepreneurs to stay focused to develop roots in our businesses, but we also need to understand the most important rule of Money Management – Diversification. Don’t take my word for it. "Give a portion to seven, or even [divide it] to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth."(Ecclesiastes 11:2) Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, said it himself – diversify 7…no, even eight different ways! We Godpreneurs can receive three types of income: Portfolio – Income from investing in the stock market or having a 401K Passive – Cash coming in from rental properties or the sales of a book or online course Active – Money we work for like providing a service or selling products in our businesses You are likely earning an active income. Some of you are earning passive income. Fewer of you are earning portfolio income. But the Bible says you need to be involved in all of them. Personally, here is what I have going on so you can learn from: My Portfolio Income I don't have any of my money in stock market portfolios, bitcoin, or a 401K. My personal preference is to invest in my own companies and ideas. Therefore, I have a portfolio of brands that I invest my time, money, and resources into. I'm creating my own portfolio of companies to invest in. My Passive Income I have a company I started back in 2018 called www.vaLocator.com. It's a virtual assistant staffing agency. I started the company, then hired a CEO to replace me. I get on a call once a week to go over branding ideas and I'm a primary driver of business through referrals. And at the end of every month and 4 times a year, I receive passive income from this venture. I'm not involved in the day-to-day operations. I also have this Godpreneur Academy. People buy my business Bible studies and business courses. That's passive income I receive from creating a product once and being able to sell it many times over. My Active Income I'm very active in my business at the beginning. I start businesses with the goal of turning them into passive investments. I add them to my portfolio of businesses. However, from its inception until I can hand it off, I'm very active and I pay myself a salary during those times. In this case, I receive active income. God is overseeing the way we manage the money and funds he sends our way, as long as we manage these correctly, he will bless us with more. As Godpreneurs we must prove to Him that we can have the ability to manage money. I hope this post provided you with the insight you needed to develop a better sense of money management, God’s way.
